The liquid phase used in the
preparation of ketones, comprising reacting aldehydes,
alcohols, acids or esters in the presence of a solvent
is new. A process for the preparation of a ketone of
formula (I), A- C(O)-B in which A and B independently
are aliphatic hydrocarbyl, aromatic or carbocyclic (all
saturated and optionally substituted). The process
comprises the reaction, at 250-500 deg C, of a
compound(II), A-X, with a compound(III), B-Y, in which;
A and B are as defined above and X and Y independently
are OH, COOH, -COH or ester; in a heat carrying solvent
of boiling point greater than 250 deg C, and in the
presence of a catalyst comprising at least one compound
of an alkali or alkaline earth metal, a lanthanide, Si,
Al, Zn, Cu, Ni, Co, Fe, Mo, Mn, Cr, V, Ti, Zr, U, Rh,
Tl, Ag, Cd, Cd, Pb Sc or Th, in which the element is a
divalent state or of higher valence. |
